TurboCAD 3D Printing
Greetings, TurboCAD Owners,
Have you ever wondered what your TurboCAD model would actually be like if you could hold it in your hand? Now you can with a process called 3D Printing. This ‘rapid-prototyping’ technique has been around for a few years, but never tailored to TurboCAD solid models. These 3D Printed models are great for marketing and presentation tools, product development and even just as a gift for yourself or your customer.
The 3D Printing process is similar to a CAT-Scan or MRI where information is processed on a slice or layer by layer basis. When you use a 3D printer, a layer of powder is spread in the enclosed machine on a platen. That layer is solidified only where the section of the TurboCAD model is ‘sliced’. The next layer of powder is spread and bonded to the previous layer. This continues .004" at a time until the model is complete, all with internal features like holes and cavities.
Whether your CAD models are architectural or machined part designs, actual size or a scale model, we at Valley Log and Timber can assist you with this 3D printing process. With 9 years experience in log home design and 24 years in CNC manufacturing, we have the capability and understanding to create almost any type of 3D solid model.
All you need to supply to us is your TurboCAD solid model exported as an .STL file or a .WRL file. We’ll take care of the rest. STL files are used for monochrome models and .WRL files are used for colored models. Sometimes colored models aren’t the best choice due to the TurboCAD color palette and the 3D Printing machine ink-jet cartridges’ differences in interpreting these colors.
One-piece models are available up to 10” wide x 14” long x 8” high. Multi-piece models are also available and can be assembled.
The 5”x 7” scale model you see here can be supplied to you for $399.00.
For better quality and more detail, you can select a 7”x 9” model for $849.00
If your choice is aimed at best quality and highest detail, a 10”x 14”x 8” model, the price increases to $1,399.00. Basically, the cost of the model is based on the volume of the material utilized in the 3D Printed model.
Some additional cost may be required for editing details for 3D Printing.
To help in this process, after project is scaled down, if needed:
- Free-standing component minimum thickness of .125”
- Details like window grilles, holes, 3D text, etc. must be larger than .015”
